MISSISSIPPI ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIENCE

Located at the MAX museum in Mississippi, this permanent exhibit celebrates the state's rich cultural stories. I had the opportunity to use my illustration and 3D skills to bring the food culture and local chefs' stories to life.

In addition to storyboarding and illustrating assets, I also contributed to animating the stories, which were projected onto a table for visitors to interact with, using RFID technology to activate the stories.

As visitors approach the table, they can pick up and place plates onto the designated guides. Each plate represents a key ingredient in Mississippi's culinary heritage, and the various combination of plates each triggers a unique story to unfold before their eyes.

After exploring several illustrative styles, we settled on a painterly approach to give the exhibit a warm, playful vibe, while maintaining an elevated feel through smooth animations. By blending various animation techniques, we incorporated 3D elements to bring certain frames to life.

3D animation techniques add depth to assets

Bringing the hand-drawn illustrations to life was an exciting challenge. Using a mix of After Effects and Cinema 4D, we selected key frames that could benefit from an added layer of depth.

Attention to details

Some of my favorite aspects of these frames are the subtle details, like water dripping or shadows shifting in the background. These elements add depth, completing the overall animation language and enhancing its fluidity.
